Photojournalism: Orang Asli Sungai Dua (The Aborigines of Sungai Dua)

"Orang Asli" are the indigenous minorities of inhabitants of Malaysia. Transliterated, "Orang Asli" means "the original people" or "the first people". Within itself, however, the Orang Asli groups are not homogeneous. Each has its own language and culture, and perceives itself as different from the others. It was a rare occasion to have been able to delve into the culture of these beautiful people for just one day. At the end of it all, we are all humans. Language and culture are neither barriers nor differences. All we needed to exchange were smiles, and all was good to go.

Jojo Yusof is a reknown artist. He sketches, does graffiti and loves to eat. He has been featured in FAKEplastic publications, whose art work can be seen everywhere on the streets of Kuala Lumpur. It was an honour to have been asked to compile a photography portfolio of a young man such as himself, for his personal and official collection.
